One Big Family

Hijas de Santa María del Corazón de Jesús

"As Sisters, we help and support one another, in our prayer and in our work, so as to reflect, through our union, that which, as Daughters, we share with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart."
(Directory, 63)

"We thank God for this noble task that He Himself entrusts to us, on behalf of the Church, the Institute and Society. The human being of the children, the adolescents and the young people, with their immortal souls, is placed before us so that we may guide them along the straight and demanding path that leads them towards Goodness, Beauty and Truth."

Foundress of the H.SMCJ

"Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, privileged witness to the Trinitarian Mystery, Mother and Teacher, shows us how to teach them to live according to the faith and morals of the Catholic Church, and therefore, in solidarity within the family, in their work and in humanity, especially with the most disadvantaged."

(Directory, Chapter V, Article B)

Teaching Staff

"Blessed are you, if in the exercise of your profession, despite the fatigue or the misunderstanding that teaching sometimes brings, you maintain with enthusiasm the original sense of purpose with which you began — contributing, from the role you occupy, all of which are valuable, to the education and formation of our young people. They and their parents expect of you, as we do, as God does, that you will be, from your position, a born educator — effective and competent."

Support Staff

"…But I am also referring to you who attend to other tasks — reception, administration, maintenance; to you who look after the dining hall and the break times; to you who are dedicated to the upkeep of the school, or who are responsible for the school transport of pupils. You too are in important contact with them, and you can contribute to their formation as citizens with an education enriched by all the many small details that you can bestow upon them through pedagogical attitudes as simple as a well-timed smile, or a kindly word of correction…"

Families

"We are very well aware that you are your children's first educators. What we truly aim to do is to offer you effective collaboration in all the areas that human formation and literary and scientific education require."

"…We feel united, all of us, driven by the same desire: to make of your children future citizens — of the earthly city and of the Eternal City — capable of being happy in this temporal life and in the life that does not perish."

Mother María de Jesús Velarde

Pupils

"What joy it gives me to address you, just as I address the thousands of pupils who make up the family of the Schools of the Daughters of Saint Mary of the Heart of Jesus! What strength you must feel in knowing yourself accompanied by so many companions — those in your own classroom, those in your own school, those who, from so great a distance, from another continent, are bound to you by the joyful and wholesome ties that come from sharing the common ethos of all our schools!"

"You, who are gradually discovering life, from childhood and adolescence onwards, and who, as a young person, are beginning to take your first definitive decisions, aware that you must take charge of your own destiny — learn to welcome, to reflect inwardly upon the Gospel, and to spread it among your friends and family, in the words of John Paul II, 'as a sentinel of the dawn in the new millennium."

"I recognise you among the youngest pupils, among the middle ones and among the older ones who, wearing the same uniform, play in the playgrounds, learn in the classrooms, carry out research in the laboratories, study in the libraries, pray in the chapels of our schools (…) I do not mind how old you are or which country you come from. What does matter to me — and very much so! — is that wherever you are, you consider yourself, and live, as a child of God the Father, redeemed by Jesus Christ and enlightened by the Holy Spirit. And that you love deeply Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Advocate of difficult causes (…)"

Former Pupils

Former pupils hold a place of special importance in our school: they are the principal witnesses to an educational endeavour that extends from childhood through adolescence, and who, after many years, leave El Pinar with a human and spiritual formation that is designed to help them overcome the challenges they will encounter day by day in university and working life.

El Pinar is always the place to come back to — where one feels welcomed and listened to. It is the second home that always remains open and available, for whatever reason.

We are currently working on building a coordinating group of Former Pupils to create a database that will help us reach everyone, so that we can share the main events taking place at our school.

We are also working on organising the Second Former Pupils' Reunion, and we want it to be very special, as we are celebrating the first seventy years of El Pinar's life.

AFA (Families' Association)

The AFA is a living expression of the presence of families within the school's educational mission. Beyond its organisational role, it represents the shared desire to walk together — families and educators — in accompanying the children and young people in their human, spiritual and academic growth.

In the spirit of service and simplicity that inspires the charism of the Hijas de Santa María del Corazón de Jesús, the AFA collaborates with the school community to strengthen the bonds between families, promote activities that foster a sense of community, and support initiatives that help everyone to grow in values, joy and faith.

Its constant, generous and committed presence contributes to making the school a true home of the Gospel, where every child is loved, listened to and welcomed as a beloved child of God.
