Secondary: A Stage of Integral Formation

Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) spans four years, organised around subjects and areas of study, covering ages 12 to 16. The fourth year has an advisory character, guiding pupils towards post-compulsory studies in Sixth Form or Vocational Training.

What do we offer?

We offer an integral, harmonious and coherent education. The content of our moral guidelines is defined by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

What is the main objective of this stage?

To encourage, develop and achieve across all year groups:

Spiritual and personal formation through Catholic faith and virtues, with a different monthly theme for each month of the academic year.

Preparation and guidance for pupils across a range of disciplines: humanities, sciences, social studies and the arts.

Personal autonomy in the learning and socialisation process, enabling pupils to build solid relationships with others and to participate actively and competently in society.

Progress in their capacity for judgement, the acquisition of cultural knowledge, research and experience, using a range of pedagogical tools.

What methodology do we use?

Personal learning and cooperative work is an approach that aims to organise classroom activities so that they become both a social and an academic learning experience.

Students work in groups to complete tasks collectively, progressing gradually in the development of cooperative working skills.

We alternate between traditional learning methods — reinforcing reading, writing, summarising, note-taking and oral presentations — and new technologies.

El Pinar teaches Technology, IT and Robotics at Secondary level, with the aim of familiarising pupils with the new digital environment in which we live. We also develop digital skills through assignments involving Excel spreadsheets and word processing. We teach pupils to cross-reference information, to use technology responsibly and to identify reliable sources.

The Synthesis Project in Secondary is carried out in English. A topic of interest to Secondary pupils is chosen, and a dossier of related activities is completed.

Dual Sixth Form — International Double Qualification

Our school offers Secondary pupils the opportunity to study for the Dual Diploma, a programme that enables them to obtain both the Spanish Bachillerato and the American High School Diploma simultaneously.

This international programme, developed by Academica, combines in-person studies with online subjects from the American education system, offering innovative, future-oriented learning.

Through the Dual Diploma, pupils:

Significantly improve their level of English through genuine immersion.

Develop digital skills in online learning environments.

Gain autonomy, responsibility and organisational ability.

The programme can begin from Year 8 (2nd year of Secondary) onwards and develops progressively. Pupils study 6 online credits from the American curriculum, requiring approximately 3 to 5 hours per week, delivered through:

A digital platform with all course content.

Continuous monitoring by teachers based in the USA.

Direct communication and online sessions.
