Among the various musical and artistic projects, we highlight activities such as the Cantata, the Cantània, Mr. Scrooge and the dance projects.
The Sant Cugat Children's Cantata is a concert in which Year 2 Primary pupils from schools across the town take part, accompanied by live music. The music teachers, organised into working groups, are responsible for coordinating the concert.
Cantània is a participatory concert with several phases of preparation: training sessions with teaching staff, classroom work, and a final concert performed by the enrolled pupils. Throughout the academic year, work is carried out jointly between the school and the organising body. The aim is to create an event for pupils which, by virtue of its inclusive character — designed exclusively for them — its artistic quality, and the personal and collective commitment of all participants, becomes a significant and unforgettable musical experience for everyone involved.
Scrooge — A Christmas Musical is the musical version of Charles Dickens' famous Christmas story, adapted to include schools and secondary education centres. With the Sant Cugat Children's Choir (CISC) as the core choir, pupils become active participants in the show and in
its creation, supported by the CISC and its team of teachers.
The legend of Saint George and the Dragon is a classic that forms part of our popular tradition — and of our school. El cap del Drac (The Dragon's Head), the theatrical production based on the well-known folktale, has been performed for twenty years, with the participation of Year 6 Primary pupils.
The version we offer is not the legend of Saint George and the Dragon as everyone knows it. The central core of the story is preserved — the victory of Good and Life, represented by Saint George and the rose, over Evil and Death, embodied by the Dragon and blood — but there is an intentional blending of old and new in terms of costume, set design and dialogue, with a touch of gentle humour and varied music. The result is an entertaining and enjoyable theatrical piece. It is a contemporary retelling of a timeless story.
How could a school like ours not have a theatrical production about Jesus of Nazareth — his Passion, Death and Resurrection?
The question arose years ago in the course of a casual conversation. For a long time it remained in the realm of ideas and projects, until gradually scenes began to take shape,
dialogues were crafted, characters came to life and, finally, the work was committed to paper under the title — taken from the closing words of the Gospel of Saint Matthew — "I am with you always." The result of this creative process is the theatrical production which, after months of preparation, is performed by Year 9 (3rd year of Secondary) pupils.
The format of the production is guided by the maxim "Christ yesterday, today and always", which has allowed us to combine the ancient with the contemporary — in terms of both costume and set design — renewing scene compositions and introducing new characters, all with the utmost respect for the written tradition of our faith.
