Guidance Department

The Guidance Department is an internal educational, psycho-pedagogical and academic support service, which serves all pupils at the school and their families, across all stages and programmes of study offered at the centre.

What does it do?

The Guidance Department is responsible for the full range of actions, strategies and activities that are planned and carried out on a continuous basis throughout Early Years education, compulsory education and all other non-university stages of education, for all pupils, in the form of support and accompaniment, with the aim of promoting optimal personal, social, academic and professional development. (Extracted from the draft Guidance Decree, currently in preparation.)

The main tasks we carry out are detecting, assessing, advising, informing and addressing the educational needs that our pupils may present, both in the academic and emotional spheres.

Objectives of the Guidance Department

To promote the integration of pupils within their group and their participation in school life, fostering attitudes of respect, collaboration and tolerance, as well as adherence to the school's code of conduct.

To carry out personalised monitoring of the learning process of pupils with special educational needs and/or learning difficulties.

To collaborate in the assessment carried out by the teaching team, and to gather and pass on any relevant information about pupils and their families.

To contribute to the improvement of academic performance, promoting the use of learning strategies and reflection on one's own learning process.

To contribute to the personal development of each pupil, providing guidance in relation to their personal needs.

To maintain a close and open relationship with families, keeping them informed about their children's learning and adaptation processes and providing guidance according to the needs that arise.

Areas of action

The above functions are carried out across four areas of action:

With pupils:

Detection of learning difficulties, advising families on referral to services that can carry out a formal assessment.

Collaboration in the design, implementation and monitoring of the diversity support measures adopted.

Meetings with pupils at their own request, or at the request of their tutors or parents.

Support for tutorial action through collaboration, information sharing and the preparation of activities.

Support and monitoring of pupil assessment.

Support in academic and professional guidance.

Participation in the Guidance Council at the end of Compulsory Secondary Education and post-compulsory Sixth Form studies.

With teaching staff:

Collaboration with teachers in the adoption of measures to support pupil diversity, with the aim of improving the teaching and learning process.

Support for tutorial and guidance action.

Collaboration in the assessment process by attending assessment meetings.

Individual support for teachers.

Coordination with teachers to monitor pupils who require particular attention.

Accompanying tutors to progress meetings with parents of pupils with special educational needs
or others requiring particular attention.

Developing strategies to be implemented in the classroom to improve various aspects of the
teaching and learning process.

With families:

Information on diversity support measures and programmes.

Information on grants and bursaries for pupils with special educational needs.

Individual support and advice for parents in relation to their children's learning process and difficulties.

Meetings with parents at their own request, at the request of the tutor, or at the initiative of the Guidance Department itself.

Information meetings with parents regarding the results of group assessments and pupils' academic and professional options.

With the Senior Leadership Team:

Drawing up the School Guidance and Diversity Support Plan under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team, coordinating its implementation and contributing to its development and evaluation.

Advising the Senior Leadership Team on the preparation of the School Educational Project, and on the promotion and development of the evaluation of the strategic plan.

In addition, we work collaboratively within a network, coordinating with the Educational Psychology and Guidance Advisory Team (EAP) and the healthcare professional linked to the Health and School programme, among other external health and education services.
